Digby's New Clothes

Digby has some more new clothes.  He now has a t-shirt, a denim, hooded jacket and an All Blacks outfit to add to his rain coat and cat that Kasey got him.
Mrs Jones found some new clothes for Digby at the $2 Shop.
Doesn't he look super cool!

Burt & Ernie

Today we had a visit from Burt and Ernie.  But not the Burt and Ernie that we thought - Ms Smith's turtles.

Burt and Ernie are red eared turtles.  They are 1 year old.  They eat carrots, green vegetables, worms and chicken.  They live in a tank.  They have red ears on the side of their heads.

We thought they were pretty cool.  We wrote some great stories about them too!

Scarface Claw Descriptions

We have read some stories with Scarface Claw in them, and today we wrote descriptions about Scarface Claw.  We drew some amazing pictures of Scarface Claw as well.

Scarface Claw is a cat.
He has a pink nose and he has yellow eyes. He is the roughest, bravest cat. He is only scared of his reflection.

Hairy Maclary Art

Today I started putting up our published Hairy Maclary descriptions and our great Hairy Maclary art work.  Here are a few photos of what it looks like so far - more to go up tomorrow!

Digby's new Jacket and Hat

Digby has a new winter jacket and hat!!  Doesn't he look cool!!  He went home with Kasey last night and today he came back with his new outfit.  What a surprise!!

Fum & Gebra

Today we watched a video clip about a kitten and an owl, called Fum and Gebra.  They are best friends and they play together.  Fum the kitten tries to jump up to get Gebra the owl.  The kitten snuggled into the owl.  They even climbed trees together.
We wrote some fantastic stories about Fum and Gebra.

Description Writing

We are learning how to write a "Description".

First we need a "Title".  Then we write an "Introduction" which is a general sentence about what we are going to describe.  Then we "describe" using lots of adjectives.  We say what it looks like, feels like, sounds like, smells like, etc.  Lastly we write an "Evaluation" which is a closing sentence that tells the reader how we feel about what we have described.

We have been reading lots of stories about Hairy Maclary - today we wrote descriptions of Hairy Maclary.

We have also been making some Hairy Maclary art to share.

Discovery Time!

Today for Discovery our focus was the key competency “Participating and Contributing”. This means we were doing activities that actively involved us. There were activities that we had to take turns with and co-operate with others.



Today we could choose from Jump Jam, balloon tennis, rocket construction, making fortune-tellers or a game of “Bow wow, who’s got the bone”.

Maths Fun!

We have been talking about “ordinal numbers” in Maths. When we line up we can be 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.
When we lined up to see Mr Smiley Lauren was 1st , Cameron was 2nd, Ella was 3rd, Kiera was 4th and Desharn was 5th.

Day off School!!

I hope you are all having a nice day off school after yesterday's aftershocks.

I am enjoying having my own children close.  We have been to the local library and the dvd store.  We are watching "Tangled", which I am sure some of you have seen already. 

Be good for Mummy and Daddy, and try not to fight with your brothers and sisters.  (I have to keep telling my two big children that too.)

Brave Brilliant Turtles

Well done Room 1 on being brave, brilliant turtles today during our "shakey" afternoon.  I was very proud of how you all dropped and covered your head just like a turtle when I yelled "turtle".  You were very calm and grown up, and looked after each other so beautifully.
I hope you are having lots of hugs and cuddles safe in the arms of your Mummy and Daddy.

Digby's New Friend

Digby has made friends with Mr Smiley.

They met on Friday and spent the weekend together in Room 1.

I'm not sure what exciting adventures they got up to in the weekend - but they didn't make any mess!

Mr Smiley

Room 1 wrote some stories about Mr Smiley today.  We are learning how to write "descriptions" and we tried hard to describe Mr Smiley.

Room 1 Won Mr Smiley!!

Today at Junior Assembly Room 1 won Mr Smiley.  Mr Smiley noticed that Room 1 was the BEST class at showing their school values.  We get to have Mr Smiley in our class until next Friday.  He can make friends with Digby our Room 1 teddy bear.
What a great start to our first week of being in Room 1!!  Keep it up everyone!!

Giraffes Can't Dance

We read the story "Giraffes Can't Dance" by Giles Andreae.

We wrote stories about Gerald and we drew fantastic pictures of Gerald.

Mathletics

Today we had our first session as a new class in the IT room working on Mathletics.  The children are whiz kids at logging on to the computers and signing in to Mathletics.  It is great to see the progress they are making.  I hope they get the opportunity to go on Mathletics at home as well.

Room 1 is open!!

Today is our first day in action!!  We are having a great start to our time in Room 1.  Lots of very excited children and an excited teacher.

4 More Sleeps!!

Today the children who are moving to Room 1 after the weekend had their last day in Room 2 and 3.  On Tuesday they start in Room 1.  Everyone (including Mrs Jones) is very excited and can't wait until Tuesday. 
Thank you for inviting Mrs Jones to your shared class party on Thursday celebrating your farewell from the New Entrants class.

Digby

This is Digby.  Digby is Room 1's teddy bear.  He is looking forward to spending some time with us.  Digby gets to go home with Room 1 children when they have been making sensible choices at school.  Digby and Mrs Jones are looking out for children showing their school values.  They get to write about their adventures and draw a picture or take a photo.  Digby has his own story writing book and reading folder.   The next day children are able to share Digby's adventure with the class.
