Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Today we finished school for the year. And what a year it has been (with earthquakes and snow) - we all deserve a big holiday!
I feel very privileged to have taught such a wonderful class of children this year. I will have many fond memories of Room 1, 2011, and hope that they remember their time in Room 1 as well.
Merry Christmas to you and your families.
Love from Mrs Jones

30 Sleeps Until Christmas
Today we visited Santa's website.
He has a Naughty and Nice list, and we typed in some children's names to check what list they were on.
Try it at home.
Remember to check back for updates - Santa's spies are out and about watching us.

Yakkety Yak Show
On Tuesday we were lucky enough to have a visit from some of the first year students from NASDA (National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art).
Here is a recount of their wonderful show...

The Yakkety Yak Show
By Alesha
On Tuesday we went to the show. It was in the hall. At high school they were bullies. Then the teacher came out. He saw the kids being bullies. He put them in detention and all of them had to stand on a line. Jacob got some chairs to sit on. One of the girls wanted to sit down but Jacob didn't let her sit. The cleaner put up a sign, it had "no touching" but they touched it. They had to play the games. The game master was telling lies. The first game was a ninja game. Stevie was in versing a girl. Stevie got a black eye, but it was make up. I liked Lady Ga Ga's shoes. Then they went to the next game. Everybody had to find a sword. Jacob wanted to give the sword to his friends but he didn't. He gave it to her. I liked her outfit. Jacob got the prize but it was the fifteenth and he got eaten up from the mimic. Then his friends came and pulled him out. Then they went back through the tv. I loved the mimic eating Jacob and xbox is bad.

Up to Mischief!!
Today when we had our Awhina activity we came back to Room 1 and discovered some mysterious things had happened in our room.
Our big teddy was hanging from the rafters by his foot.
Some of our dress-up clothes were hanging from the wire like clothes on a washing line.
Digby was way up high on the top of the shelf looking very sad.
Mrs Jones' basket and lunch were inside the Bear's House.
WHO HAD DONE THESE SILLY THINGS???
WE THINK WE KNOW!!!Maybe it was the teacher who was wearing some of our dress-up's when they were on duty at lunch time!!
LOL! Laugh Out Loud!!
And then what did we discover.... THE DATA PROJECTOR was projecting things upside down!! Oh no!! That took a bit of brain power to fix. Can we fix it - Yes we can!!
WHAT A DAY!!

Hornby Science Fair
Today we walked down to Branston Intermediate to see the Science Fair display. It was a long way for some of us!
The Science Fair was in Branston's hall. There were 4 sections - Year 1 & 2, Year 3 & 4, Year 5 & 6 and Year 7 & 8.
We saw our class entry, and lots and lots of other entries.
Some Branston children were doing some science activities for us to try out.
For "Reflection" today we reflected on what we noticed or what we liked at the Science Fair.

Fruit Salad
As a follow up to our Science Fair experiment we tested whether lemon juice would stop fruit from turning brown. We made fruit salad as a class to test our theory.
Today we wrote Recounts. Our Focus - using time and sequence words to retell something in order, ie. first, next, then, after.
Fruit Salad
On Friday we made fruit salad.
First we chopped all of the fruit and the ones that were white we put lemon juice on. Then Mrs Jones took it to the staff room and later on we got to eat it.
It was yummy.

Awhina Activity
Today to celebrate the start of the Rugby World Cup we had a rugby themed Awhina activity. Each Awhina group learnt a different country's national anthem. The chosen countries were Scotland, Australia, England, Wales, Ireland and Canada. The whole school went to the school hall. We began with the New Zealand national anthem and then we did the Toia mai haka. Then each Awhina group sang the national anthem that they had learnt.
It was awesome!!
