Hornby Science Fair

Today we walked down to Branston Intermediate to see the Science Fair display. It was a long way for some of us!
The Science Fair was in Branston's hall.  There were 4 sections - Year 1 & 2, Year 3 & 4, Year 5 & 6 and Year 7 & 8.
We saw our class entry, and lots and lots of other entries.
Some Branston children were doing some science activities for us to try out.
For "Reflection" today we reflected on what we noticed or what we liked at the Science Fair.

Fruit Salad

As a follow up to our Science Fair experiment we tested whether lemon juice would stop fruit from turning brown.  We made fruit salad as a class to test our theory.

Today we wrote Recounts.  Our Focus - using time and sequence words to retell something in order, ie. first, next, then, after.

Fruit Salad
On Friday we made fruit salad.
First we chopped all of the fruit and the ones that were white we put lemon juice on.  Then Mrs Jones took it to the staff room and later on we got to eat it.
It was yummy.

It was delicious.

Awhina Activity

Today to celebrate the start of the Rugby World Cup we had a rugby themed Awhina activity.  Each Awhina group learnt a different country's national anthem.  The chosen countries were Scotland, Australia, England, Wales, Ireland and Canada.  The whole school went to the school hall.  We began with the New Zealand national anthem and then we did the Toia mai haka.  Then each Awhina group sang the national anthem that they had learnt.
It was awesome!!
GO THE ALL BLACKS!!

Science

We are getting ready for the Science Fair at Branston Intermediate at the end of September.  Here is a story about what we are doing from Cole...

On Wednesday I liked doing our science experiement.  We put potatoes in water, lemonade, vinegar, lemon juice and fresh air.  We are going to see if it goes black.

Updates to follow...

Wacky Wednesday!

Story by Jermaine....

On Wednesday Mr Breach came to teach us.  We made daffodils with Mr Breach and Mrs Murray.  Mrs Jones went to Room 5.  We did the haka.  We made frogs.  All the teachers got mixed up with all of the teachers.  They made other things.  Mr Breach wanted to verse me.  He was funny.  Children were laughing at him.  I didn't laugh at him.  It was fun having him in our room.  He liked being in Room 1.  The kids got tested.  I liked getting tested.

Lambs

In the weekend Mrs Jones saw lots of lambs (some even close to her house) and she took these photos of them.  We are learning how to write “Information Reports” and we wrote one all about Lambs.  An “Information Report” has a title, an opening sentence, a description of the topic and an evaluation at the end.  Room 1 children are amazing, little writing machines – and they can write the most awesome stories!  Here are a few…

Lambs
Lambs are baby sheep and they are born at spring.  They have wool and they live in the farm.  They eat grass and they drink milk from their mother.  The farmer cuts off their wool.  They say “baa” or “maa”.  Lambs are clever.

Lambs
Lambs are baby sheep.  Little lambs drink milk from their mums.  Lambs are born in spring.  They are in their mum’s tummies.  They are cuddly and they say “baa”.  Sometimes they chase each other and cuddle their mum’s in case they get lost.  I think lambs are amazing.

Lambs
Lambs are baby sheep.  They have wool.  They have white wool.  They drink milk.  A baby lamb is born in spring.  They are cuddly too.  They have long tails when they are born and they eat tall grass.  They have hooves.  Baby lambs make the sound “baa, baa, baa”.  They are soft.  Lambs are clever.
